A 16-year-old male came with his mom to seek an alternative treatment for his seizures. He was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3. When he turned 13th, his doctor found a benign tumor on the side of his skull. The tumor was surgically removed in a short period of time. His diet consisted mostly of carbs and sugar. Seizures were controlled with two types of medication. However, it wasn’t enough. He had seizures more often and lasted 5 minutes and sometimes more. He always ended up in the hospital. His parents were giving an autopen to use when the seizures lasted longer. Generally, after an episode, he threw up and slept for hours. His acupuncture care plan consisted of treatments twice a week for 4 weeks. At the second treatment, the episodes expanded to every 5 weeks. He no longer throws up or sleeps after it or ends up in an emergency room. The seizures currently last less than a minute and he doesn’t need recovery time. He is fine right away. The autopen hasn’t been used in a long time. His mom was very surprised at how much he has changed. He is eating vegetables. He is more sociable. Most importantly, he loves acupuncture. He called them Gaby’s needles. After every treatment, he gives me feedback saying “I feel better now” He is coming once a week now. The therapy will be for a while. He is still taking his medication and following up with his doctor.

Autism & Epilepsy

A 56-year-old female came to my office complaining of lower back pain, ankle injury (every year for the last 3 years), tremors, dizziness, arthritis in her hands, fibromyalgia and anxiety. The patient is under medical supervision for years due to the strong prescribed medications that she is on. She visits her Chiropractor on a weekly basis for a long time to treat her back, dizziness and shoulder pain. Every acupuncture treatment helped her decrease her pains and to lessen her dizziness and tremors. Her doctor removed one medication and she is on her way to reducing her second medication. The patient is satisfied with her results as well as her Chiropractor. He noticed the change in her posture and her muscles are loosening. The patient will continue with weekly treatments for a while. Now, her goal is to lose weight and be more active since the pain is no longer an obstacle.

Fibromyalgia, Tremors

A 53-year old female had blueish-purple toes for about four years. The diagnosis was never clear. The syndrome could originated from a pathology or from an adverse effect of a medication that she was on for several years. That specific medication was listed as a possible side effect purple toes. She was treated 2 times a week for a month. In her second visit, she was pleasantly surprised that the color of her toes changed to her natural beige. She is not embarrassed of her feet anymore. Her feet and hands were cold to the touch. One reason could had been the lack of proper blood circulation. Moxa therapy along with acupuncture were the strategies used to resolved her medical complaint. Currently, she is getting acupuncture once a week. The next target is to control the rheumatoid arthritis in her hands, which are also improving.

Raynaud’s Syndrome

A 35-year-old male had a shoulder injury several years ago. He tried different medical therapies and injections throughout the years. Some of them produced a level of relief. His external range of motion was limited. He had pain and restricted shoulder movement across his other shoulder after several years. He came to see me a month ago with a stubborn pain level of 3 out of 10. From his first treatment, he found the pain decreased to zero and he was able to touch his other shoulder across without limitation. So far, he has had a total of 5 treatments. Following his first treatment, the pain came back after 2 days. He was worried that his shoulder got worse even though no needles were inserted near his injured shoulder. I explained that symptoms may worsen for a short period of time before his medical complaint gets better. It is a necessary part of the process. Pain is not a negative effect in this case. His second treatment and thereafter was even better, no healing crisis experience anymore. Even his medical diagnosis of diverticulitis had improved which was an indirect positive effect of his shoulder treatment. The patient is very happy that he can finally is able to play with his kids.

Shoulder’s Pain

A 53-year-old male suffered a stroke 2 years ago. His left side of the body was affected. The patient stated that his arm and leg feel cold in some areas and have a burning sensation throughout. He doesn’t feel his toes attached to his body. When his body turns to the left, his balance is off. His voice has a slight stutter. He and his wife travel a long distance to receive acupuncture therapy. They don’t mind because his health is improving. In his first visit, the patient was able to turn to the left without losing balance or coordination. His voice was clearer. His left extremities warm up and the burning sensation decreased. He felt his toes after 2 years, it was a special moment for him and his wife. He will continue with his treatments once a week for several months.
